Old School Dungeon Crawling


Get out your d20s...

Ever since playing Bard's Tale and marching around the town of Skara Brae, I was hooked.  I don't know how many times my Monk with 1 HP dragged the rest of the party's corpses back to the Adventurer's Guild Hall just because I tried to attack the Dragon Statue too soon.  But it was awesome fun!  Then I bought other games such as Pools of Radiance, Dungeon Master, Eye of the Beholder, Might and Magic, Wizardry and my personal favorite was Lands of Lore 1.  And although there were others that I enjoyed playing, I always liked the party-based game with the grid-based movement.   They had character - no pun intended.  That's what I'm trying to recreate with this project -- a lot of old school character using a modern engine.

Current Status

There's a lot of work to do.  I created a Trello board for the project, and I'll keep myself organized with that.  So far:

  • the basic movement system has been created.
  • the Gameplay Interface is nearly complete but may change depending on how the gameplay works.
  • I have permission to use the Tabletop rules from the RPG:  Heroes of Adventure game and from the rule books I'm creating a JSON file to store all of the game meta data such as classes, items, skills, etc.
  • and now, I'm working on the art/design and code for the Party Creation.
